A list of Council Tax Charges Payable on your Property in The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea 2019/2020

1. Garden Squares

46 of the garden squares in RBKC raise an annual levy which is collected as part of the council tax due from residents whose properties form part of the garden. The charge is added to your council tax bills which is called a “garden charge”. The table below shows the levies for the 46 garden squares for 2019-20. It also shows the tax base for each garden, the garden charge at Band D, and the total council tax at Band D including the garden charge.

2. Empty property premium charge

If your property has been left unoccupied and unfurnished for two years or more, from 1 April 2019, you will be charged an additional 100 per cent of the full Council Tax charge. This means you will pay 200 per cent Council Tax.

Example:

There are two exceptions where the Empty Property Premium will not be added. These are:

  • A property which has been left empty by a member of the Armed Forces who has been posted away from home.
  • A property which is an annexe to another property and it is being used as part of the main property.

 3. The Greater London Authority

This year the GLA is charging £320.51 for each Band D property. The GLA’s share of the council tax for a typical Band D property has been increased by £26.28 (or 50p per week) to £320.51. The additional income raised according to the GLA will fund the Metropolitan Police and the London Fire Brigade. Council taxpayers in the City of London, which has its own police force, will pay £78.38.
